Just a quickie before I dive in. If you're a London based private sector business employing 20-249 people you might like to hear about a new programme that could refund you the cost of using me to train you and your staff! Do Your Own PR has been chosen to be a provider for the Addmore Leadership and Management Programme. Funded by the LSC and managed by Business Link for London, the programme entitles you to a maximum refund of £1000 on any pre agreed spend with Do Your Own PR. If you think you might fit the bill and want to find out more email me at paula@doyourownpr.com and I'll get in touch.

THE TOP THREE WAYS TO EVALUATE YOUR PR

A growing percentage of my clients are businesses that have already been using a PR agency, and either finding them ineffectual, or just unsure as to whether there's any real connection between the coverage they are getting and the sales they are making.

While the first problem is something that has to dealt with on a case to basis, the second is something that actually needs addressing before you take on a PR agency, or even embark on your own PR campaign. It's about putting in systems to measure PR from the very beginning - or as soon as you possibly can.

There are many ways to do this and here are the top three and they are all so simple to implement.
1. Get access to your web stats. It's amazing how many small businesses don't know how many people are clicking through to their site and from where. This is such a vital step when it comes to planning and growing an online PR campaign.

2. Asking where people heard about you. This can be in the form of a question on your contact form, or just something you naturally ask new customers.

3. Running specific offers with specific publications will help you gauge whether it really is your target market. If someone is writing about you, see if you can also add on a reader offer (most publications are usually delighted if they are already doing something on you anyway) to actually see if the people who read your PR are also taking the vital step to buying from you.

MY PR STAR!!

If any of you have read this month's (Nov) edition of Eve you may have noticed a four page spread on Lucie Storrs and her shop and online business www.periodfeatures.net . Lucie is one of my star coaching clients - and this fantastic article is only one of many she's either had out or has lined up! In her own words she says that PR has increased her business by thousands, and this one article with Eve alone (one of the biggest UK women's magazines) is worth thousands of pounds in publicity. It's proof that PR coaching can work for those who are serious about raising their business profile and are willing to take the action they need to do it.

So, on that note, I'm increasing my coaching availability and from this month have two spaces left for any businesses that would be interested in working on their own PR success. PR coaching involves a monthly coaching call where we brainstorm, discuss media contacts and tactics, set goals and deadlines, and generally work on using your strengths to get PR happening.

If you'd be interested in joining me for some PR coaching and mentoring drop me a line on paula@doyourownpr.com or give me a call on 0208 504 4557. And well done Lucie!

CLIENT NEWS

Karin Ridger's online TV station www.veggievision.co.uk was mentioned by BBC online, sending the number of visitors rocketing. Inside Out Buildings (www.iobuild.co.uk ) are having a press release reprinted in Architects Choice - a perfect target market.

AND FINALLY..

I'm getting to know the local area now and yesterday discovered a lovely French style patisserie where I spent the morning writing and topping up with mochas and tarte au poire, pain au chocolat and left with some very tasty green olive bread for lunch. I'll have to make sure my laptop is fully charged before my next visit. You have to support local business you know!

Until next time.

"..have to say how much I enjoyed the course. I did a PR & Marketing course several years ago and realise now how theoretical it was. The guidance and practical tips from Do Your Own PR have been fantastic and you've given me confidence in how to put them into action. Thanks, too, for all your advice specifically related to Glass for the Present. I have recommended you to a number of friends in business, so hope they make the most of the opportunity - a worthwhile investment, for sure!" Robyn West at www.glassforthepresent.co.uk
