Meet The PR and Marketing Coaches
Those of you who know me well will know that I've been working with three new PR coaches over the last few months, bringing their skills into the business. They're each very different, with very unique backgrounds and specialities. Emily Gordon worked as my PA initially. Her experience at the BBC and Channel 4 was invaluable in helping me put my ecourses together. Hulya Erdal has been working with me on providing traditional PR for clients for over a year now. And finally Amanda Alexander was one of my original coaching clients who has done so well I just had to bring her on board so that she can pass on her expertise to others. Find out more about PR coaching here.

The Devil Wears Prada - and my personal history!
I saw this last night - fantastic film (Meryl Streep is excellent as Miranda), I really enjoyed it. But it also brought back a few memories for me. My last "job" in PR involved a boss like Miranda. We girls used to sit in the main office and call up journalists all day (it was before the days of email darling) and she would sit in her little side office paiting her nails or reading the latest Hello! magazine listening to our conversations. If she thought that we hadn't done a good job she'd make us call up the journalists all over again! She had very high expectations and if we didn't meet them could be very emotional. A temper tantrum that my children would be shocked at would be followed by the inevitable over-sized bunch of flowers or bottle of expensive perfume. Still, I have to thank her profusely - and honestly - for two things. The first was teaching me how to do PR and do it well, and the second was for driving me so potty that I decided to start my own PR company. I haven't looked back since!

What are Tip Sheets? Tip sheets are short snappy advice based emails, which are excellent for helping you build your profile and status as an expert. I started really using them a few years ago when one of my clients drew up her list of top 10 publications - which included the financial pages of the Sunday Times, Daily Mail etc.
She desperately needed press coverage in these respected titles but just found the thought of getting on the phone to these people just too overwhelming. Despite all my coaxing and coaching she just wasn't ready. So, we launched monthly tip sheets on her target area and guess what, within a couple of months (yes, as quick as that) they were calling her! By getting valuable professional advice out regularly she had proven that she knew her area and could be approached for expert comments and advice.
Tip sheets, and examples, are covered in more depth on our PR ecourse but here are 5 things you should know about tip sheets.
1. They are great for people and businesses that need to raise their profile as an expert - not so great if you're selling a product - although it can be done. 2. It's the persistence that matters most. You need to prove that you are a reliable source of advice. 3. Unlike press releases tip sheets don't really need to be chased up. 4. You can if course recycle your content and use tip sheets in your newsletter, on your blog etc. 5. Write six months worth of tip sheets in advance and all you have to do is send them out on a regular date, say 2nd of the month. If you want to see samples and read more about how to put a tip sheet together, check out our 30 day Do Your Own PR ecourse at: /products/do_your_own_pr_ecourse.asp
